Vampirella #3 1976 Turkish Comic Turkey Warren Publishing cover #49 Dracula
Vampirella – Issue #3 – Benli Yayınevi Turkish Edition (1976)
Description:
This comic is Issue #3 from the Turkish Vampirella series published by Benli Yayınevi between 1976 and 1978. The series ran for a total of 31 issues and represents one of the earliest dedicated Vampirella publications in Turkey, continuing to build a strong presence for the character in the local comic market. As with the earlier issues, the series was initially released weekly in 34-page numbered editions before transitioning in early 1977 to a monthly format with expanded, unnumbered issues.
Printed entirely in black and white and in a smaller comic book format (approximately 24 cm in height), this issue reflects the production standards of Turkish comics of the 1970s. Drawing heavily from Warren Publishing’s Creepy and Eerie magazines, the series presents a curated blend of horror and science fiction. This anthology structure, occasionally enriched with adaptations and literary influences, gives the publication a distinctive identity among Turkish horror comics of the period.
Issue #3 features “Derinlerdeki Dehşet,” the Turkish version of The Lurker In The Deep! from Vampirella #13 (1971), delivering a classic atmospheric horror story rooted in suspense and the unknown. The issue also includes “William Wilson,” an adaptation of the famous Edgar Allan Poe story, adding a literary dimension that reflects the series’ engagement with classic gothic themes. In addition, Part 1 of “Vampirella ve Barbara” (from Vampirella #47, 1975 – Mother’s Coming Home) introduces a new narrative thread, expanding the scope of the issue with a more character-driven storyline.
Continuing the serialized adaptation, this issue presents Part 3 of “Kont Dracula’nın Şatosu” (Castle Dracula), adapted from The House of Hammer No. 1 (1976). Based on the 1958 Dracula film starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, the story further develops its cinematic narrative within the comic format. The cover is taken from Vampirella #49, notable for featuring the first appearance of the Blood Red Queen of Hearts, making this issue particularly appealing to collectors due to its connection with a key moment in Vampirella’s original publication history.
