Yakari is a well-known European comic series written by André Jobin and illustrated by Derib (real name Claude de Ribaupierre). The series follows the adventures of Yakari, a young Sioux Native American boy who has the rare gift of being able to understand and speak with animals. Because of this unique ability, Yakari forms special friendships with many animals of the North American wilderness and learns valuable lessons about nature, courage, and respect for life. The series later gained even wider popularity through its animated television adaptation.

Yakari’s adventures usually take place across the great plains and forests of North America, where he encounters many animals native to the region. His closest companions include the Sioux girl Rainbow, the Sioux boy Buffalo Seed, and his loyal pony Little Thunder. Together they experience journeys that combine adventure, humor, and moral lessons rooted in respect for nature and indigenous culture.

This Turkish edition was published by Bilge Kültür Sanat Yayınları between 2011 and 2014, with a total of 10 issues released in Turkey. The books are printed in Turkish and in full color. This first issue, published in 2011, contains the story titled Yakari ile Ulu Kartal, originally published in French as Et Grand Aigle. In this story Yakari encounters the majestic Great Eagle, an important spiritual figure in Sioux culture, and the adventure highlights Yakari’s special connection with animals and the natural world.
