Yıldız – “Film Songs” (Yıldız Film Şarkıları) – 22nd Special Issue, May 10, 1946 – Turkish Edition

Description:

Yıldız was one of the pioneering and longest-running cinema and entertainment magazines in Turkish publishing history. First published on November 1, 1938, it continued until April 17, 1954, introducing Turkish readers to Hollywood and European cinema through illustrated stories, celebrity profiles, interviews, and film news. The magazine devoted considerable attention to internationally renowned screen stars, popular films, and the music associated with cinema.

Published on May 10, 1946, this special edition is titled “Yıldız Film Şarkıları” (Yıldız Film Songs) and is numbered the 22nd special issue. Unlike the magazine’s regular issues, this publication is dedicated to film music, featuring 50 songs from popular motion pictures of the period, with Turkish and original lyrics or related information. Deanna Durbin, the celebrated American actress and singer, appears on the front cover, while the back cover features actress Ann Sothern.

The collection brings together songs and stars from a variety of Hollywood productions. Featured selections include “The Fleet’s In” from the film of the same name, performed by Betty Jane Rhodes; “Jingle, Jangle, Jingle” from The Great Fire, associated with Fred MacMurray, Paulette Goddard, and Susan Hayward; and “Give Me Time” from Till Death Do Us Part, featuring Bette Davis and George Brent. The issue also includes photographs of Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, and Ginny Simms, adding a strong visual component to its musical content.

Other selections include “Calendar Song” and “Salome” from Du Barry Was a Lady, featuring Lucille Ball, Gene Kelly, and Virginia O’Brien; “It Could Happen to You,” performed by Dorothy Lamour in And the Angels Sing; and “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” performed by Alice Faye in the film of the same name. The collection also features “For Me and My Gal,” performed by Judy Garland and Gene Kelly in the film of the same title. Together, these songs and photographs offer a glimpse into the close relationship between Hollywood cinema and popular music in the 1940s.

For collectors of vintage Turkish cinema magazines, classic Hollywood memorabilia, and historical film music publications, this special issue offers an appealing combination of song lyrics, film references, and celebrity photographs. Its dedicated musical format, collection of 50 film songs, and Deanna Durbin cover make it a distinctive example of Turkish cinema publishing in the postwar period.
