Zorro is a classic European comic adaptation rooted in Italian storytelling, created as part of the Edizioni Del Fanciullo “Serie D’Oro – Il Segno di Zorro” series from the early 1970s. Unlike the American Zorro comics, this series leans toward a Spaghetti Western aesthetic, featuring grittier art and storytelling. The main character, Don Diego de la Vega, is a former journalist and legal correspondent who returns to California after years of study in Europe. Witnessing the unjust execution of a rebel, Diego realizes that open opposition could endanger his family. To protect them while fighting for justice, he adopts the secret identity of El Zorro, a masked vigilante committed to righting wrongs.

This issue, titled Ölüm Oyunu (Death Game), is the second installment of Alfa Yayınları’ Turkish adaptation, printed in black and white. Alfa Yayınları published a total of nine issues in the early 1980s, bringing the Italian Zorro stories to Turkish readers with high fidelity to the original series’ gritty western tone. The Turkish cover is based on the cover of the Italian Zorro Gigante #1 from 1972, but with some changes: the original depiction of a captured man was replaced with a woman, creating a unique variation for the Turkish edition.

Alongside Zorro’s central adventure, this issue also includes a short comic at the end titled Honda – Hallelujah Smith. The story of Honda is based on a short tale by renowned author Louis L'Amour and inspired by the 1953 John Wayne classic western film, Hondo. The character, Hondo Lane, is a Native American scout and former soldier, reimagined here for Turkish readers under the name Honda. This additional story complements Zorro’s themes, providing an extra layer of western adventure and historical flavor, likely adapted from an Italian comic source.
